Ways to Get Involved
You can get involved as much or as little as you like – it’s up to you! Read on for more information on ways to have your say.
-
Become a Board Member: Tenant board members are elected every two years and serve for up to two terms – or four years. Board meetings are held every two months and board members are also required to attend training days, away days and some committee meetings.
-
‘Get Together’ with Wolverhampton Homes: ‘Get Togethers’ are an informal opportunity to meet and mingle with senior staff, including the CEO and members of the board. There is an interactive session on different topics of interest to the local area or the whole city. They take place every quarter in each of the following areas: Bilston, Low Hill, Merry Hill and Wednesfield. Sessions are open to all tenants, leaseholders and family members, as well as representatives of Tenants and Residents Associations. Usually lasting two hours and held in the evening, from 6-8pm, you can come along for just part of the session if you're short of time. See Get Together Upcoming Dates for details of the next meetings.
-
Register for Consultations: By registering with us you will receive regular information about the different consultations we are carrying out. These can be on a range of subjects – e.g. our capital improvement programme, antisocial behaviour, or the development of our website. You will be in a position to choose to get involved when it suits or is of interest to you.
-
Focus and Discussion Groups: These take place on a ‘when necessary’ basis, roughly once a month, and tenants can attend as often or as little as they like. Meetings are held at different times and on different days to make sure people who work or have other commitments can attend at least some of them. They are informal, with just a small number of tenants at each (the maximum is 12) and usually last between one and two hours.
-
Estate Inspections: Every street is "walked” by the Estate Manager four times a year. You are welcome to attend and walk round with staff, raising issues or reporting back. The dates are advertised in our One Stop Shops and can also be obtained from your Estate Manger. Walks last approx 1½ hours. Click Estate Inspections for more information.
-
Mystery Shopping: You can become a ‘mystery shopper’. These check the service on our behalf, without staff being aware, so that we can monitor what a "real experience" is like. Training is provided and shoppers are needed on an occasional basis. See You Talked We Listened for details of the mystery shopping we carried out in 2009-10.
-
Special Interest Groups (SIGs): These are working groups that usually meet two or more times to finish a specific task. They are an opportunity for you and our staff to work together to influence the delivery of services, consider new innovations and explore areas of concern. At the start of each task, tenants who have expressed an interest in special interest groups will be invited to take part. The maximum number of participants is 12. Meetings last approximately two hours and are usually held once a month or every six weeks. Training is provided where necessary.
-
Review Panel: This is a group of 11 tenants and one leaseholder. The group was selected by an independent panel after a wide advertising campaign. If you would like to know more, you can apply to shadow the panel by contacting the community partnership team and filling in an application form. Training will be provided.
-
Tenants and Residents Association (TRA): These are local groups run by people who live on particular estates. They have a range of activities and meetings focusing on making their area a better place to live and ensuring that it has a voice. They act as important channels of communication between their estate and us.
