Introductory Tenancies
If you have an introductory tenancy, for the first year you do not have all the rights that a secure tenant has.
However, if you want to do something that is not allowed by your tenancy agreement (such as carry out improvements or take in a lodger), please contact your local housing office with the details and they will decide if you can go ahead.
The most important difference between secure and introductory tenancies is the way we can take action against introductory tenants who do not keep to the tenancy agreement.
With a secure tenancy we have to give the court evidence of why it should allow us to repossess the property. With introductory tenancies we only have to convince the court that we have followed the correct procedures.
The introductory tenancy scheme was introduced as part of our commitment to fighting anti-social behaviour.
For further information on this service please contact your local housing office.
