Ending your tenancy agreement
What should I do if I want to leave my council home?
If you want to end your tenency agreement you must give at least four weeks notice in writing.
The letter giving notice must:
- be dated
- give the address of the property you wish to leave
- include the date on which you want the tenancy to end (the Monday four weeks after date notice is given)
- include your new address.
The letter giving notice must then be taken to your nearest housing office.
Important information
You must ensure that the date you give is at least four weeks before you intend to leave.
If the keys are received after 12 noon an additional weeks rent will be charged.
Leaving your property
When you leave your property, you must leave it in a clean and tidy condition.
We will pay £50 if all the rubbish has been removed, there is no damage and the keys are handed over to the Lettings Officer in your home. Also if your property can be let as your tenancy ends and you allow prospective tenants to view your home £50 will be paid to you with a further £50 if the property is accepted.
Any damage to the property, missing items or additional cleaning will be charged for.
Please ensure that the keys to your property are handed into either Bilston, Low Hill, Merry Hill or Wednesfield office before 12 noon on the Monday your tenancy ends.
