Communal Heating Charges
Depending on the type and location of your home, you may have to pay for your heating and hot water with your rent. If the complex has a communal heating system or communal electricity supply this will be divided by all residents and the proportion added to your rent.
As a tenant you will be informed of any charges when you sign your agreement. Housing Benefit will not cover this part of the rent.
You will not then receive a gas or electric bill for heating and hot water. You will receive electricity bills for the electricity supply for your lighting, cooking and other electrical items.
If the Communal Heating breaks down, please report this as follows:
If you have been charged for Communal Heating, while the system is broken, contact your Housing Office, as you may be entitled to a refund.
Communal Heating Charges are part of the rent for your home.
If you have rent arrears due to communal heating charges, contact your Estate Manager. If your arrears continue to build up, due to communal heating charges, and you receive Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance, we can apply to the Department of Work and Pensions for this amount to be deducted from your benefit payments. If arrears continue to build up, we can apply for possession of your home.
Please contact your Local Housing Office for any advice/help on this subject.
