How to pay your rent leaflet

When is my rent due?

  • We charge rent each Monday for the week that has just passed.
  • The council must receive your payment by 4pm on a Friday.
  • You must make sure that your rent account is always up to date.
  • There are two weeks each year when you don’t have to pay any rent. These are week 1 and week 38 or 39 (see your rent book).  If you have missed rent payments, you must continue to make payments on these weeks.

Can I pay each fortnight or each month?

Yes, but you must make payments for the fortnight or month to come.

How can I pay my rent?

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easy way for you to pay your rent.  You can instruct Wolverhampton City Council, (in partnership with Wolverhampton Homes) to collect money from your bank or building society account.  We will let you know:

  • The date that we will collect the money
  • How much we will collect

The direct debit scheme is quick and easy and you don't have to remember when to pay.  The scheme is protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

When you choose to pay by Direct Debit you are automatically entered into our monthly FREE PRIZE DRAW

  • keep your rent account up to date and you could choose from a range of prizes worth up to £150!
  • £150 paid into a Wolverhampton City Credit Union account set up in your name OR
  • home contents insurance for a year to the value of £150 ( approximately £20,000 sum assured) OR
  • £75 in shopping vouchers for the major retailer of your choice.

By choosing Direct Debit you increase your chances of winning a prize!  If your rent account is up to date you are entered into the quarterly draw AND the monthly Direct Debit customers' draw.
