Decent Homes Information Pack 1. Introduction
The Government has set a target to bring all public sector homes up to a decent standard. A decent home is one which is wind and weather tight, warm and has modern facilities. This information pack is designed to tell you what Decent Homes means for you.
You could see a range of improvements both inside and outside you home including a new kitchen, bathroom, re-wiring, central heating, a new front or back door, new guttering and roofing.
Depending what improvements you have - there will be disruption with building work, dirt and mess. We will provide floor covering and dust sheets to protect your home. Your Tenant Liaison Officer (TLO) will advise you on how you can prepare for the work and what you need to do when work starts.
To find out whether your home meets the standard or what work is needed, a surveyor will visit your home. We will only carry out work to bring your home up to the Decent Homes Standard as part of this programme. This means that you may have different work done to your neighbours’ homes. In some cases you may not need to have any work done at all. We will be able to tell you what work we will be doing in your home after our surveyor has visited you. This visit depends upon where your home is in the programme. The Decent Homes Programme tells you where your home is in the programme.
