Communal Heating Charges

Depending on the type and location of your home, you may have to pay for heating and hot water on top of your rent. If the complex has a communal heating system or electricity supply, this will be divided between all residents and your portion of the costs will be added to rent.

If this is the case, you will not be billed for the electricity used to provide heating and hot water, but will receive bills for other electricity used within your household, e.g. lighting, cooking and appliances.

As a tenant, you will be told of any charges when you sign your agreement. Housing Benefit does not cover this part of the rent.
