Advice on saving energy and reducing fuel costs
Affordable Warmth
We are committed to tackling fuel poverty and achieving affordable warmth for all our tenants and residents.
Our overall aim is to ensure that no-one in households managed by us suffers from fuel poverty, that excess winter deaths are significantly reduced and that all residents can afford to heat their homes adequately.
By working with Wolverhampton City Council and her partner organisations, key health professionals, and groups which identify vulnerable people, we can tackle this issue and provide the best advice to fuel poor households.

Top Energy Saving Tips to Reduce Your Fuel Bills
- Don't overheat your home - turning your central heating down by just one degree could reduce fuel bills by ten percent a year.
- Have a shower instead of a bath - it is five times cheaper.
- Don't overfill the kettle - only boil as much water as you need.
- Change to energy-efficient light bulbs - they may cost more initially, but they use a fraction of the electricity of normal bulbs and last up to ten times longer.
- Always turn off lights when leaving a room.
- Don't leave appliances (e.g. televisions, DVD players, stereos) on standby - it wastes electricity and costs you money.
- When you buy new appliances (e.g. washing machines, fridges, freezers) always look for, and ask for, the most energy efficient model.
- Draw the curtains when it goes dark to keep in the warmth.
- Turn off mobile phone chargers as soon as charging is completed - they continue to use electricity if the PowerPoint switch is left on, even if no phone is connected.
- Use a microwave oven to cook small meals – it’s much cheaper.
