How Your Rent Is Set
What does your rent cover?
Your rent covers the cost of providing you with your home and other services such as repairs and maintenance. You may also pay a charge if you rent a garage or live in sheltered accommodation.
If you live in a flat your rent may also include elements for communal cleaning, concierge services, furniture, maintenance, servicing, improvement and replacement of heating systems, fencing improvements, caretaking and warden services.
How is your rent set?
Your weekly rent is based on a formula set by the Government which takes into account the value of the property, average local wages, the number of bedrooms and average council rents nationally.
The Government has said all organisations which provide social housing should use exactly the same formula to set rents so that in time, the rent for the same house in the same area will be identical whoever the landlord is.
Will your rent go up?
The Council reviews your rent and service charges every year and Wolverhampton Homes carries out the consultation with you, any change normally starts from April. New service charges may be introduced during the year for any new services. If so, we will give you four weeks notice in writing.
