Black History Month
Customer liaison officer
Claudette works with our Decent Homes team.
For her, Black History Month is about pride, determination, celebration and self-awareness.
My journey thus far has been faced with challenges and obstacles which I am proud to say I have overcome through determination and hard work even though I find that I am constantly having to prove myself.
Black History Month is a time to remember, celebrate and appreciate our achievements as black people. It is milestone for self-awareness which allows all black people to learn about the accomplishments of our black heroes such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Marcus Garvey; the list goes on.
For me as a black woman, Black History Month is about more than discovering hidden histories. It is also about empowerment through knowledge. So while it is important that people of all backgrounds learn about black contribution to Britain and the world, we can step forward in dignity and with confidence.
Happy Black History Month!
