What you need to do

If you’re not already registered - make sure you register for Homes In The City – that’s the only way to make a bid for a property. Find out how on our Find a Home page.

Can you afford it?

Taking on your own home can be expensive. Before you start bidding – make sure you can afford to pay the rent – and the other things like utility bills, council tax and the TV licence.

Check out our cost of running a home web page – it’s a great place to start when it comes to looking at how you can afford a home.

The new homes are classed as having ‘affordable rents’ – that’s about 80% of what the rent would be in the private market.

This table gives you an idea about what the weekly rents are for these types of properties.

The two hour workshops are held at locations across the city and cover:

  • the cost of running a home,
  • your rights and responsibilities as a tenant,
  • how you can get ready to be a tenant,
  • and lots more.
