Angela Barnes has been appointed to the role of Assistant Director – Housing Options, where she will oversee homelessness services in Wolverhampton.
The service, which transferred over to Wolverhampton Homes from the city council in December 2017, is delivered by three key teams: Housing Options, Housing Outreach and Temporary Accommodation.
After 16 years working for Dudley MBC in a variety of housing services roles, Angela Barnes joined Wolverhampton Homes in 2005 as Area Manager and later became Head of Community Investment in 2012. The post of Assistant Director – Housing Options, draws on her experience and expertise in managing Lettings, Housing Support, and debt and money advice, which she will continue to manage as part of her new role.
Angela Barnes, Assistant Director – Housing Options, said:
I’m excited to have taken on this new role as we look to build upon the services previously delivered by the city council, helping and supporting our city’s most vulnerable.Over the coming years, we will be working closely with individuals and families to help them secure a home that meets their needs. I feel it’s important and I intend to ensure applicants are given advice and guidance to enable them to make informed choices about their housing situation, which will lead to more sustainable outcomes. We will be developing our tenancy sustainment services with the aim of not only preventing homelessness, but also preventing homelessness from reoccurring. We will also be working more closely with private sector landlords to give households more choice in terms of where they live. One of my biggest priorities is safeguarding and I intend to ensure that this is embedded in all homelessness services. There are challenges ahead, but I am confident that with the help and support of City of Wolverhampton Council, we will continue to deliver a service that meets and exceeds expectations.
