Children aged between 7 and 11 in Wolverhampton are invited to put their drawing skills to the test this Halloween, by designing a futuristic, environmentally friendly home. The competition launched today (11 October) and closes at 5pm on Friday 29 October.
The competition has been launched in aid of the City’s green agenda. The government announced a climate change emergency in May 2019, with a further commitment to slash carbon emissions by 78% by 2035. The City of Wolverhampton Council went a step further by pledging to make the local authority carbon-neutral by 2028. At Wolverhampton Homes, we’re playing our part with the development of our own carbon reduction strategy, which addresses company emissions, including those produced by our fleet.
The three winners will be picked by the Mayor of Wolverhampton and announced publicly the week beginning Monday 15 November 2021.
Each of the winners will receive an ‘access all areas’ ticket to Challenge Academy, an exciting outdoor adventure park at Baggeridge Country Park, for them and their family (up to five people).
Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Greg Brackenridge said:
"We all have a part to play in striving towards a greener, healthier city. The current generation of children are more aware than ever of their impact on the environment, and many are keen to do what they can to reduce our collective carbon footprint.
"Education is key, and we'd like children to set an example for their peers by thinking outside the box to design a home that contributes to the Green City agenda. The sky is the limit, and no idea is too big or too small.
"Families missed out on celebrating with their friends and neighbours this time last year, and we hope Wolverhampton Homes' Green Halloween event will provide residents with a much-deserved opportunity to interact with their community, have fun, play games, and benefit from free energy advice."
