Exciting work experience programme for young people launched

Supporting People

We are proud to announce the launch of our innovative work experience programme, REACH. Supporting the City of Wolverhampton Council's commitment to reducing youth unemployment, the programme aims to provide ambitious 18-24 year olds in the city with a unique opportunity to gain valuable business experience, develop essential skills and enhance their employability prospects.

REACH is a six-week work experience placement with Wolverhampton Homes or one of our partners within the city. Participants will have the chance to immerse themselves in a professional environment, gaining practical insights and hands-on experience. The launch coincides with this year’s Learning at Work Week which runs from 15-21 May 2023, with the theme ‘Create the Future’.

The programme requires a commitment of three days per week. You’ll be on placement for two days a week in the business gaining hands-on experience which will allow you to apply your newly acquired skills, develop confidence, and make meaningful contributions.

We are committed to providing opportunities to those who are seeking better employment but lack experience. Through the REACH programme, we aim to bridge that gap and empower residents to achieve their career goals.

You’ll also spend one day each week in Learning & Development with our dedicated employment coaches. They will provide personalised support and guidance to help you develop an up-to-date CV which showcases your skills and experience effectively. You’ll attend mock interviews with feedback to hone your interview skills and confidence, and work with the coaches to enhance your professional development and allow you to reach your potential.

On completion of the programme, you will receive a certificate and will be able to give Wolverhampton Homes as a reference for future job applications. You’ll be more confident about what to expect in an interview and we’ll equip you with a range of transferable skills that are highly valued by employers, helping you to stand out from the competition.

Shaun Aldis, Chief Executive of Wolverhampton Homes, said:

"We are excited to launch the REACH programme, that offers ambitious young people a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a working environment and valuable skills that support their future prospects.

“We know that young people in the city want to work and develop rewarding and worthwhile careers, and we are committed to providing opportunities to those who are seeking better employment but lack experience. Through the REACH programme, we aim to bridge that gap and empower residents to achieve their career goals.”

Applications for the REACH programme are now open. You’ll need to be aged 18-24, living in Wolverhampton and actively job seeking. Whether you’re unemployed, in adult education, on a zero hours contract or just looking to make a positive change for your future, find out more.
