Celebrating LGBT History Month

Group of people holding a rainbow flag at a Pride event

LGBT History month occurs every February and its aim is to celebrate, promote and educate on the LGBT social and civil rights movement. It is a time to reflect on the past; the journey that LGBT people have been on and a look to the future.

It is a fascinating and varied history that we aim to explore as part of this month. This year’s Theme is ‘Through the Lens’. There will be a focus on learning from the past; hearing from past experiences, people’s stories and their truth with a look to what we are aiming to achieve as part of wider LGBT+ inclusion work with the City of Wolverhampton Council and other partners in the city. Read our new blogs written by WH colleagues to share their stories.

The Wolverhampton Homes Equality Champions network has dug out some old photos to share the story of how WH has promoted the LGBT movement over the years, with a long history of supporting inclusion and equality in Wolverhampton, including the first local Pride event. These will go into a time capsule at the City Archives for others to look ‘Behind the Lens’ in years to come. But you won’t miss out – you can see all of the photos below!
