Keeping our community safe
Importance of safely disposing of cigarettes
Two fires in recent weeks involved discarded cigarettes - one at Longfield House and one at Wobaston Court.
At Wobaston Court, a fire started on a first-floor balcony, with cigarette ends found in the grass below. At Longfield House, a fire occurred on scaffolding at the 11th floor, where a cigarette butt was found nearby.
To help stay safe, please follow this advice from West Midlands Fire Service.
Longfield House fire update
A fire occurred on Saturday 04 April. A discarded cigarette is believed to have ignited materials on the scaffolding.
The fire was contained to the immediate area and did not affect the building. There was no impact to residents, and no injuries were reported.
At the time, control measures were in place and considered suitable. However, housekeeping on site was below the required standard. Actions have been taken to improve this, including limiting the amount of materials taken onto scaffolding each day and removing any excess at the end of the day.
Own an e-bike, e-scooter or mobility scooter?
Lithium batteries can pose a fire risk if not used correctly. Simple steps like using the correct charger, avoiding overloading sockets, and not charging unattended can help reduce the risk.
Possession order secured following anti-social behaviour
Wolverhampton Homes worked in partnership with West Midlands Police to obtain a possession order against a tenant on Wednesfield Road.
The action followed several years of anti-social behaviour, where the tenant, along with visitors and associates, caused nuisance and disturbance to residents.
Please do not throw items from windows
We have received reports of food and other waste being thrown from windows in high-rise buildings.
This behaviour can cause harm to others, create mess in communal areas, and attract pests.
If you witness this and the person responsible can be identified, please report it to your concierge or estate staff, or contact us so we can take appropriate action.
