This week (21 – 25 September 2026) is Fire Door Safety Week and we are supporting it by sharing information on our social media pages about the important role fire doors play.
The entrance door to your flat, along with doors to corridors and staircases, are designed to resist fire for a set period of time, in line with fire and building regulations.
It means if a fire breaks out, a fire door will contain the fire and smoke in a specific area, helping to protect the rest of the building and other residents. This is an important part of the ‘Stay put, unless’ guidance if a fire breaks out.
But fire doors can only do their job if they are in good condition and kept closed.
To keep you, your neighbours and the building in which you live safe, please ensure you do not:
- Remove any fire doors – or any standard internal doors
- Prop or wedge them open
- Tamper with them
- Disconnect any door closers
- Drill screws or hammer nails into the door or frame
