Believing in accessibility for all

In your community

We believe that putting customers at the heart of everything we do is essential in planning, delivering and improving our services. By getting involved and voicing your opinions you can help to make a real difference to your community.

We have a number of local groups where you can meet new friends and enjoy shared interests. You might already be involved in a project in your community which needs some funding, or have a big idea for something that can really make a difference. Or you might have some free time and would like to volunteer and support others in your local area. Whether you want to invest a couple of hours on a one-off basis or commit to something more long-term, there will be something to suit you.

Get involved

  • Join our customer panels

Join our customer panels and you'll be involved in reviewing our services and identifying changes and improvements. You'll represent the voice of all customers, helping to ensure all our services reflect our customers' experiences and meet their needs and expectations.

The ability to look beyond your own personal experience combined with your positive approach and team skills will mean you'll play a vital role in helping us to continue to improve for all our customers.

    Customer panel

    • The panel will usually meet every three months.
    • Each meeting will be around two to three hours long.
    • The meetings might be in person or online, via Teams or Zoom.
    • Full training, equipment and support will be provided, so please don't worry if you don't have a laptop or tablet to join an online meeting, or if you don't know how to use Zoom.

    Customer influence (scrutiny) panel

    • A minimum of three panels every year.
    • You'll review specific services or areas of the company. This could involve spending time shadowing our teams, understanding more about our processes and challenging how things work in practice for customers.
    • You'll need to commit around 10 to 12 hours in total reviewing a service over a month or more. This may take place online or in person.
    • Full training, equipment and support will be provided, so please don't worry if you don't have a laptop or tablet to join an online meeting, or if you don't know how to use Zoom.

You can read more about the activities and requirements for our panels in the Terms of Reference.

  • Giving something back

As Wolverhampton’s biggest social housing provider we are about more than just bricks and mortar. We recognise that helping to create thriving communities is a huge part of our role locally.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is all about giving something back to our communities, playing our part in tackling the
challenges our communities face and working with our partners, contractors and supply chain to help create positive change.
We want to help local people to get on in life through creating employment and training opportunities, enhancing financial wellbeing and supporting the customers who need us most.

  • Take part in surveys and feedback

We will sometimes send out surveys or ask for customers to provide feedback by email. You will usually have up to a week to provide feedback, and it can be done from your phone or tablet at a time to suit you and will typically take around 10 minutes. You don’t have to take part every time we email you, so it’s an easy and flexible way to get involved when you can.

  • Become a board member

Our board is made up of tenants, councillors and independent members.

Tenant board members are elected every two years and serve for up to four years. Meetings are held every two months and members will need to attend training away days and committee meetings.

  • Tenant and resident associations

Are you interested in joining or setting up a local group for your estate? It’s a great way to get to know your neighbours and make a real difference to the area you call home. Tenant and resident associations (TRAs) host a range of activities and meetings to focus on making their area a better place to live.

You can find details of the TRAs in your area below - please contact us for more information. If there isn’t one already, we can support you to set one up yourself.

  • Volunteer with us

Volunteering can be a truly positive, life-enhancing experience, and the work we do in local communities wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated network of volunteers.

You can help in lots of different ways, no matter how much time you have and whatever your experience. You’ll connect with your community, boost your skills, meet new people and can make a real difference in your community.

  • Funding to make a difference in your community

The Wolverhampton Homes community chest fund provides an opportunity for local voluntary and community groups to apply for funding to support projects and initiatives that benefit our customers.

Befriending service

Do you go from week to week without hearing a friendly voice? Though loneliness isn't in itself a mental health problem, the two are strongly linked. People who feel isolated and alone are more at risk of becoming anxious and depressed. Loneliness is a big problem, particularly amongst older people.

That's why we're pleased to offer our Befriending Service to members of the community. Our specially trained volunteers are available to call residents on a Tuesday or Friday each week between 11am and 1pm. What you talk about is entirely up to you.
