Believing in accessibility for all

ESCAPE PLAN

Stay fire safe

In April 2026, the government is introducing regulations for Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (RPEEPS).

These will ensure that all customers living in flats will receive information about what to do in the event of a fire.

While we are already broadly compliant with the new regulations, the Fire Safety team will be contacting all our vulnerable customers who live in flats to advise them on their evacuation plan.

By taking some simple steps we can all ‘Stay Fire Safe’ and avoid the risk of accidental fires in our homes. Here is what you can do:

With your support and co-operation together we keep you, your family and your neighbours safe from fire.

  • Allow us access to your home to carry out important safety checks and surveys
  • Do not tamper with any fire safety equipment or the closing mechanism on self-closing doors and fire doors
  • Keep communal areas clear, do not store or keep items such as bikes, prams, or furniture in them
  • Report any concerns about fire safety to us at the earliest opportunity

With fire-related deaths rising in the UK, protecting your home and your family has never been more important.

Having a plan and knowing what to do in a fire could save your life. Preparing and practising how to escape will give you and your family peace of mind.

  • Keep your exits free from clutter
  • Have a second way out in case the first is blocked or dangerous to use
  • Make sure everyone living in the house knows where keys are
  • Practise getting low and moving to your exits in case there is smoke
  • Choose a safe meeting place a safe distance from your home

If you live in a flat, please ensure that you know and follow the Stay Put Unless fire safety procedure.

Remember:

If you think you may need help to leave your home in an emergency contact us and arrange a visit from one of our Fire Safety officers who will work with you to create a plan to suit your needs.
