Amy was recently supported by the Money Smart team:

Amy contacted the Money Smart team at the end of August because she was struggling with the bedroom tax and had tried three times to apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) to help with her costs. The Money Smart team advised Amy to register for home swapper and to look for a mutual exchange. The team also contacted Housing Benefit on Amy's behalf, to see if we could get a DHP in place while she was looking to move. The DHP was approved, covering most of Amy's weekly rent. Amy has now found a home that is more suitable for her and is in the process of completing a mutual exchange. The exchange is only two streets from where she is living now and her full rent will be covered. She is extremely happy with the outcome and couldn't be more thankful.

Amy said: “Thank you so much! It’s beautiful”.

Jamie was also supported by the team:

Jamie was in high arrears. He had been suffering from poor mental health and contacted the Money Smart team for advice. We also found out that he didn't have a cooker so was living off microwave meals. The Money Smart team managed to get him a cooker through Glasspool and he said how excited he was to cook a proper meal. The team also applied for a DHP, and this was awarded to cover bedroom tax for four months. We also applied for a grant through the Smallwood Trust to help with Jamie's rent arrears and £500 was awarded.
