Building works update

Improvement works across Heath Town

The building contractors, United Infrastructure, have been busy making important improvements to the mid-rise blocks across the estate. The works will improve comfort, safety, and overall living standards for residents.

Windows are being installed at Ling House, along with essential electrical improvements and ceiling re-fits to refresh and modernise your homes.

We are also pleased to share that door intercoms have been fitted at Lincoln House, which will give residents greater communication and security to their block.

Please click on the relevant property below to read more updates, specific to you.

  • Deck access blocks

We are fitting new boilers and radiators in many of the homes within the deck access blocks. They will replace an old warm air unit that is currently giving heating through grills in each room. The new system is environmentally friendly and is a great opportunity for you to save money on your heating bills - as they will be connected to the recently built Energy Centre located on Chervil Rise.

Your homes will also be benefitting from an electrical upgrade involving a new fuse board and new smoke and heat detection alarms.

Additionally, your homes are kept up to date with the latest fire safety regulations. With fire doors fitted throughout, with fire stopping and asbestos removal works where necessary.

All of these upgrades will benefit you and your families for years to come, helping you to live in safe and secure homes.

  • Longfield House

Building work is progressing well at Longfield House. Thank you to the majority of you who have given us access to your home, so we can complete the upgrades. We only have a handful of homes where we are finding this difficult, and we will continue to do our best to work with you so your home is upgraded to the best possible standard.

The scaffold is currently up to floor 19. However, scaffolding is currently on hold due to the positioning of the aerial, but plans are in place for it to be re-directed. Once more scaffolding is in place, we will be fitting the curtain walls.

  • Brockfield House

Building works are progressing well at Brockfield House. The scaffolding has been dropped to floor 6 which means better visibility out of your home. Thank you for your co-operation as we upgrade your homes.

We are finding gaining access to homes in Brockfield House more challenging. Please work with us to help us upgrade your homes, and make sure that it is up to the very best standard to keep you and your families safe.

You may hear more from your Tenancy and Leasehold Officers, who are supporting us with the work to ensure it is kept to schedule.

  • Campion House

Work is going well at Campion House. We are working through homes that have been snagged, to ensure that all of our works are complete to the highest standards and you are happy with the result.

We are currently installing new skirting boards in the communal areas.

The scaffold has also started to be dropped and at present we are on floor 16. Thank you again for your co-operation as we upgrade your homes.

Join us for our coffee mornings ☕

United Infrastructure host coffee mornings once a month. These sessions are held on the estate to ensure tenants are aware of works and have the opportunity to chat to a member of the team. We will also always update you with any building works, with a dedicated Resident Liaison Officer visiting your home with a letter including the details.

The coffee mornings are advertised in the relevant block. Please keep an eye out for the details and make sure to say hello!

Fire Safety

Tailored support from your Fire Safety team

With the building works going on across Heath Town, Wolverhampton Homes' Fire Safety team have been supporting customers with their individual needs.

The team recently helped a customer to put special measures in place, to ensure the resident was happy to come and go from his home whilst temporary changes were being made to the entrance of his building.

The team are always more than happy to help with your fire safety needs. If you have any issues with fire safety, such as any support evacuating your home in an emergency, please contact the Fire Safety team.

Similarly, if you have any mobility issues and need further support, they are always more than happy to have a conversation with you to offer extra support and safety.

Helping people build new futures as they rebuild bikes

The council has joined forces with Hope Community Project to launch a new scheme to help residents learn skills which could change their lives, while restoring unwanted bicycles.

Heath Town Spokes and Skills is a six week programme focusing primarily on bike mechanics and maintenance, which will restore bikes donated through the council’s Too Good to Chuck scheme.

But it will go far beyond that by empowering people to build skills, confidence, friendships and potentially even gain employment.

It is the latest scheme under the council’s City Homemakers banner and is being funded through the Government’s Household Support Fund.

Participants will also get the chance to use the bikes, giving them access to reliable, economical transportation, which in turn could help them gain employment.

Some of the bikes will also be sold for affordable prices to people in need in the community and proceeds will help fund future schemes.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the six week programme and signing up should contact Jack Burgwin at Hope Community Project.

Stay safe

Condensation, damp and mould

In most cases, damp and mould growth are caused by condensation, which occurs when warm moist air comes into contact with a cold surface like a wall or window. There are small changes you can make to help reduce condensation in your home.

If you are still experiencing damp and mould, please tell us.

Help to prevent drain blockages

Please support us in preventing drain blockages and flooding. We have seen repeated blockages caused by pouring fat, oil and grease down the sink or drains. We would ask that you dispose of these liquids appropriately and to support you, there is specific guidance from Seven Trent here.

Reporting anti-social behaviour (ASB)

The ASB team are dedicated to keeping all areas of the city safe and secure. They have had many successes in Heath Town, with injunction orders in place where necessary to support residents. Please view our website for more details on how to report ASB, what is classed as ASB, and what you can do to help.
