2024 garden competition results

The results of our garden competition are in!

The Mayor’s City Champion is… John Bland, 60 Merridale Court! 🎉


Gold awards go to:

  • Mr and Mrs Lewis, and Robert Zawadowski, for best garden
  • Christopher Walker for best community garden
  • John Bland for best private communal garden
  • Mr and Mrs Beardsmore for best container
  • Mr and Mrs Mayou for best patio
  • Doreen Vernon for best wildlife garden
  • Warstones Primary School, and Edward the Elder Primary School, for best school garden
  • Edward the Elder Primary School for best sunflower


Silver awards go to:

  • Mr Eddows, and Mr Parker, in the garden category
  • The Acres, and Mr and Mrs Jones, in the community garden category
  • Steve Morgan, and Cyril Scragg, in the private communal garden category
  • Debbie Cunningham in the container category
  • Angela McMahon in the patio category
  • Pete Forrester in the wildlife garden category
  • Rakegate Primary School in the school garden category
  • Warstones Primary School in the sunflower category


Bronze awards go to:

  • Marie Gough, and Kate Smith, in the garden category
  • Victor Kingsley in the community garden category
  • Wayne White in the private communal garden category
  • Sandra Roe, and Karen Ward-Hopkins, in the patio category
  • Steve Morgan in the wildlife garden category
  • Oakmeadow Primary School in the school garden category
  • Oakmeadow Primary School in the sunflower category


The people’s choice winners:

  • 143A Winchester Road for best garden
  • 38 Thornton Road for best community communal garden
  • 18 The Poynings for best communal garden
  • 24 Hughes Road for best container
  • 2 Warstones Gardens for best patio


The special achievement awards go to:

  • 37 Elmdon Road for the most innovative and interesting garden
  • Masefield Mews Gardeners for creating a wonderful community garden during improvement works
  • 64 Limehurst Avenue for creating a community garden where neighbours donate items to display
  • Samantha Consiglio for the Tenancy Officer’s best entry competition winner
  • Uplands Junior School for their wellbeing garden
  • Merridale Court for a community that is thriving – we had three winners across the gold, silver and bronze awards from the same estate (this hasn’t happened before!)
